Exactly on the same day, a year ago, my inner being was completely possessed - in memory of my guru MLV Amma, on her 90th birth anniversary! I wanted it to be a celebration of sorts. The coming together of all her senior disciples and her accompanists, the camaraderie, the joy in singing what she taught all of us – all these and more were the hallmarks of the day. An offering of love, respect and pride, to our beloved Guru Padma Bhushan awardee, Sangita Kalanidhi Dr. ML Vasanthakumari. Honourable Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gracing the occasion with her ‘from the heart’ speech was indeed special, which was followed by Honourable Minister Manoj Sinha releasing the stamp in MLV Amma’s memory. ‘Samadrishti’ followed – an entwining of music and dance that featured MLV Amma’s golden numbers, rendered by me and danced to perfection by Smt. Rama Vaidyanathan. What a beautiful day it was and thanking all the rasikas who attended and stayed on until the end, celebrating MLV Amma and her music along with all of us her sishyas! Standing here today, looking back at my journey thus far and the beautiful interlude of 13 years with my guru MLV Amma, I am grateful to her for the person I am – I draw my strength, courage and motivation from all the ‘bodhana’ I received from her! To continue my mission and not simply rest on my laurels, to stand tall in the face of adversities, to fight any situation with grit and acumen and that no problem can be bigger than your resilience to resolve were my nuggets of learning! My guru MLV Amma is one of a kind and her ideals are embedded in me. Her music lives forever…... I am happy to share a short av that we had screened on the occasion of MLV90 last year.
