Bolton Castle is one of the best Castles to tour in England, and the UK. In fact, Bolton Castle is one of the finest Medieval Castles still in existence in the world! Bolton Castle also represents one of the finest family days out in Yorkshire. After a visit with my family, and armed with my Fujifilm X-T4 camera, I put together this short Cinematic Castle Tour. If you want to see inside Bolton Castle, then this video is for you! history of Bolton Castle - Set within stunning surroundings and built on the site of an earlier Manor House, Bolton Castle was built for Sir Richard, the first Lord Scrope. Constructed between 1379 and 1399, Bolton Castle has seen some action over its lifetime. Of significance is that Mary Queen of Scott’s was imprisoned here for six months in 1568. The castle was actually set on fire by Henry VIII in the sixteenth century and was marginally slighted during the civil war Bolton Castle is slated as being one of the best-preserved medieval castles in England, and I would be inclined to agree. Whilst much of it is in ruin, the owners have seemingly invested a considerable amount of time and money in bringing parts of the castle back to life. In fact, there are plenty of indoor areas to explore, such as the Great Hall, Lord Scrope’s bedroom, and the room that Mary Queen of Scots and her entourage were held in. I have a particular interest in Bolton Castle as it was allegedly designed by the same architect as Sheriff Hutton Castle. I live very close to Sheriff Hutton and have been fascinated by it for years. It’s hard to imagine what Sheriff Hutton must have looked like based on its current state, however if we look to Bolton Castle then we get a good impression of how magnificent and imposing it must have been! Bolton Castle is my favourite castle in Yorkshire and is far larger than you expect. Try to go on a good day if you can so that you can enjoy the fantastic views from the battlements.
