Enoch's vision of sheep and the Lord of the sheep. The Book of Enoch. Chapters 89, 90. The Animal Apocalypse is one of the most remarkable sections of 1 Enoch. In His parables about of the sheep and Good shepherd, Jesus referred to this vision. This prophesy of Enoch was well known in His times - as the Book of Enoch scroll was found among the Dead Sea Scrolls (ancient Jewish religious manuscripts of Jesus era that were found in the Qumran Caves in the Judaean Desert). Scholarly consensus dates these scrolls from the last 3 centuries BC and the 1st century AD. The Book of Enoch had always been and is part of the canonical Bible in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Moses is referred as one of the sheep "that sheep, their leader which had become a man, withdrew from them and fell asleep" (Mount Nebo episode) - Vision of the death of Moses ("Sheep which led them falls asleep") and crossing of Jordan: "And I saw till this sheep which had met that sheep which led them fell asleep: and I saw till all the great sheep perished and little ones arose in their place, and they came to a pasture, and approached a stream of water. 38.
