Timbale Solo #1 "Descarga Cubana" by Guillermo Barreto

Here is the first in a series of videos on some solos from the Mike Spiro book, Language of the Masters. This is one of my favorite books when it comes to teaching Afro-Cuban percussion. The book features transcribed solos from many great percussion artists on timbales, congas and bongos. The book is published by Sher Music and I highly recommend it. This first timbale solo is by Guillermo Barreto and is from the album Cuban Jam Sessions in Miniature by Cachao y su Ritmo Caliente. The solo is from the tune Descarga Cubano and it begins around 1:18 into the track. I am playing with the recording (which has the original timbale solo on it) and using the transcription from the book. I also play the solo with a click track at 1/2 note =110 (quarter note = 220). The timbales I am using were made by JCR percussion and are 15" and 14" in diameter. The timbale sticks are the Vic Firth Alex Acuna "Conquistador" model.
