Hand Flying an ILS Approach to (nearly) Minimums: IFR Flight in a Cessna 210 to Nashville, TN

Recently I took the family to Nashville to spend a weekend at the Opryland Hotel around Christmas. The day was forecast to be solid IFR with temps on the grounds hovering in the mid-40s. So initially I thought flying would be a no-go due to icing concerns. However, upon checking the weather thoroughly and reading all PIREPs in the area, I found that a temperature inversion had settled in the area. This meant the temps aloft were actually a bit warmer than what was on the ground...at least at the altitude I would be flying. So we loaded up the plane on a cold misty afternoon and made the one hour flight to Nashville International Airport. Upon departing we were quickly in the clouds. I had hoped maybe we would be between layers as those are really cool conditions to fly in but no such luck. For the majority of the flight we were completely in the clouds. I was vectored around Nashville for the ILS approach into 20L. I decided to hand fly this approach as it had been a while since I had done that in instrument conditions that were this low. The approach went smoothly aside from my dauhther's ears not acclimating to the pressure change from the descent...that was sad to rewatch on video!! We broke out of the clouds and the runway became visible at just over 400 feet above minimums. I'll be the first to admit that I've had some less than stellar landings over the years, but landing at KBNA was an absolute greaser! It's important after all to finish those approaches in style. We taxied to Signature FBO and then caught an Uber to our hotel. I cannot emphasize enough how much I enjoy trips like these when you have to coordinate a flight, travel, and a place to stay! It's one of my favorite parts of general aviation.
