How to have Wi-Fi in your backyard, Steve’s journey

Is this you? You want to use your Wi-Fi in the backyard but it just doesn’t work well. And if you do get some Wi-Fi it’s maybe fine for simple things, but not enough to stream your favorite show or have an important Zoom call. Maybe it is time to change the gear you use for your home Internet. Our friend Steve called us to ask for help. He wanted to Zoom from his favorite chair in his backyard while sipping on some nice red wine. But his internet just wasn’t fast enough. He wanted to do it himself this time instead of asking his sons to take care of it. We discovered he was using a combo Cable Modem/Wi-Fi Router that his internet provider had installed and rented to him. And that box just couldn’t reach from his living room in the front of the house to the yard. So Steve decided to purchase his own gear and switch to a separate box for the cable modem and a mesh router for his Wi-Fi. Thanks to a mesh network, he put Wi-Fi in various places in the house, including his back window so he could boost his Wi-Fi to his favorite chair in the backyard. Steve also likes not having to rent outdated equipment from his internet provider. His new equipment will pay for itself in less than two years. Plus if newer technology comes along such as Wi-Fi 6, he can change out just his router, or if he wants faster internet he can buy a new state-of-the-art cable modem. Watch the video to learn about Steve’s journey to Internet independence and fast backyard WiFi.
