Since officially launching the Brain Endowment for Autism Research Sciences (BEARS) tissue program in February of 2012, Dr. Cyndi Schumann has given outreach lectures to the community, parent organizations, organ procurement organizations, and health care providers across the county on the critical need for brain donation to autism research. Dr. Schumann's multidisciplinary research focus is on characterizing neuroanatomical, cellular, and molecular development of the brain in typical children and those with autism. She has published over 20 articles in the last few years in books and high-impact journals, including the first longitudinal MRI study of brain development in toddlers and children with autism. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
