LIn Pyae: Tagu Jams Live Recording Session

This Tagu Jams session is definitely for those who enjoy music that nourishes the soul. Within the themes of loss and loneliness, you can hear the sighs of the songwriter longing for the dreams he once held tightly against his chest. Definitely not the kind of music you expect a 24-year-old to be writing but Lin Pyae shows a level of maturity well beyond his years in the songs he performed at Taug Jams. His songs are a beautiful combination of his lived experience and lessons he’s learned from it. In a song like “Khit Pyat Lu”, we hear an artist striving forward alongside the undefiable movement of time. Watching this live session will make you feel like you’re in the countryside sitting by the fire listening to stories. The tales of a young artist trying to survive in the harsh realities of a coldhearted city. The sound waves from his music vibrates your soul rather than your body. His tone and delivery make you absorb every word and hang on to every syllable before they fade into the music. The accompanying acoustic folk rhythms and jazz melodies will transport the listeners to a place where they can see the world through Lin Pyae’s eyes. His songs may be new to everyone but here at the Tagu Music office, we hear his tunes quite often during the chill hours: Lin Pyae, on his guitar, singing his heart out in the office’s Smoking Room. For a couple of years now, he has been working as a video editor at Tagu. The last three jams sessions (The Rookies, Pseudo Human and The Storytellers) were all edited by him. And you’ve probably seen him at underground music events either with Tagu crew or with his friends from The Peacists, which he managed at one point. Lin Pyae helped organize the Tagu Jams session with The Peacists back in 2022. While working on films and live recordings at the office, he writes his experience and his perspective into songs and records demos on his phone. And he would play these songs to us on his guitar. In this live recording session, Tagu Jams’ producer Sai Kong Kham took on the role of the music producer since none of LIn Pyae’s songs had been properly arranged or recorded before. Sai handpicked his childhood friend Ito for jazzy guitar melodies, brought in Suzie for the folksy strings, and welcomed back the reliable bass and drum duo of Aung Kant and Lyan Lyan. This memorable Tagu Jams session is the direct result of their creative collaboration. This live session was shot and recorded on 7th July, 2024. It’s the first Tagu Jams we organized this year after we fixed the leaky roof in our recording/meeting room. We planned to repaint the wall. But after scraping the old paints off, we fell in love with the color and the texture of the concrete wall underneath – worn down and damaged, a reflection of a war-torn nation. A fitting set up for a young man forced to grow up quickly in a cruel world. Lin Pyae brought four songs to life in this session. And we can’t wait for you to be moved by them.
