Vice President Sara Duterte sparred with members of the House of Representatives Tuesday (August 27) during the appropriation committee's hearing on the proposed 2025 budget of the Office of the Vice President (OVP). Faced with questions from ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro about the 2022 confidential funds expenditure of the OVP, a defiant Duterte repeatedly said that the hearing should supposedly only cover the 2025 proposal of her office. However, committee senior vice chair and Marikina 2nd District Rep. Stella Quimbo pointed out that in its invitation letter to Duterte, the topics enumerated include the past budget utilization of the OVP. The heated exchange turned personal when, instead of answering Castro's inquiries about the confidential funds, Duterte brought up the lawmaker's child abuse case and questioned why she is still seated as a member of the panel.
