How Dremio implemented Materialized Views with Iceberg?

Apache Iceberg is the foundational technology used by Dremio's Reflections to accelerate SQL queries using materialized views. This session will cover the implementation journey that Dremio took to replace materialized view metadata and storage from Parquet based datasets to Apache Iceberg table format. Moving to Apache Iceberg has unlocked many new capabilities including snapshot based incremental refresh, table maintenance and improved query performance through advanced partition and file pruning. We will also talk about the benefits of an Iceberg Materialized View Specification and how that would enable Dremio Reflections to be shared with other query engines.
