Well, folks, another year has been crossed off the ever growing list. That can only mean it's time for the annual look back at the last 365 days, 52 weeks, 525,600 minutes, or whatever your preferred measurements are for the time that has passed. This first of two videos showcases the main line action I have managed to capture this past year and, while most of it will be very familiar to you, there are a few previously unpublished shots dotted around for you to enjoy. As with every year 2019 saw a small number of steam locomotives returning to the national network, most notably two old legends of the main line scene, 7029 'Clun Castle' and 45596 'Bahamas'. Other returnees included 46115 'Scots Guardsman' and 61306 'Mayflower', following periods out of action for major overhauls. As well as welcoming back old main line favourites, we also bid farewell Carnforth based 8F No.48151, as she made her last run with a trip to Stratford-upon-Avon, before being withdrawn for a major overhaul herself. The year also saw the passing of the torch on the Great Western Main Line, as the mighty HSTs made their final runs as InterCity express passenger trains under GWR operation, handing over the honours to the new Hitachi IETs. Some personal highlights from the year include 44871's utterly stunning performances the Cotswold Venturer, back in May, providing one of the most awesome spectacles up Sapperton Bank that I have ever witnessed! Filming the GWR HSTs during their final day and the subsequent 'Flying Banana' railtour. 35018 'British India Line' making her return to Southern metals for the first time since her restoration in 2017, 7029's continually excellent performances during her first year back on the main line and, finally, 60009 'Union of South Africa' making her last run west of Bristol with the 'Torbay Express', before her permanent withdrawal from service in 2020. As always, a massive thank you to everyone who has watched and supported my videos throughout not only the year, but the last decade! Not forgetting all those involved with the restoration and running of all of the locomotives, rolling stock and railways that I've had the pleasure of capturing on camera. You've really given me some very special moments in my life. All the best and a Happy New Year to you all. Kristian Filmed on a Panasonic VXF990 with a Pro Sound L92AA microphone.
