I was really excited to see Chen Long and his magical defense, and I've always been a big fan of Chen Long's even before his olympic run. This game, however, started off really quite disappointingly. The first 10 points were riddled with errors from both players, perhaps this may have been the drift or other conditions. But, you could definitely tell that Kidambi desperately wanted to be on the aggressive side, but wasn't able to execute it well enough - still filled with unforced errors, things like judgement and long lifts (Have a look at the BWF recording at [22:58]). Notice how most of the intense rallies and highlights ended up being around the second-half of the final game. Personally, I felt like it wasn't Chen Long that had won the game, but more that Kidambi lost the game through his numerous mistakes and not being able to convert on those opportunities.
