FTP (File Transfer Protocol) The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to transfer computer files from one host to another host over a TCP-based network, such as the Internet. FTP is built on client-server architecture and uses separate control and data connections between the client and the server. Install the FTP service on Windows Server 2008 1. Add Web Server (IIS) role in to your server. 2. Under Role services, select FTP Publishing Service. This will install the FTP service and the FTP management console. 3. Click Next, and then click Install. Configure IIS for FTP. 1. Go to Administrative tools and choose Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager. 2. Right click on the Default FTP sites and choose properties. 3. Give an IP address for the FTP. 4. Start the FTP site by default it was already stopped. 5. And go to the FTP root folder and save any Files. 6.
