Recently I purchased a Stihl 500i, and as always I can not "leave well enough alone." If for no other reason, I thought the big dogs looked aggressive and cool, but they will also help dig into the logs more when cutting. I added the undercarriage protection plate as well, just as a precaution. I plan to use this saw, but I also want it to stay looking as new as possible. You can see in this video, adding that bottom plate and the dogs added about 1lb of weight to the saw. That is a big deal when hauling a saw around the woods all day. For me, this saw will be occasional use, and mainly bucking firewood rounds. Soon I'll have a 25 inch light bar for it, and I think that will be the ideal setup.
