Reign has sadly lost significant muscle mass and is unable to use her back legs. I'm working on encouraging her to use her legs whenever possible and attempting to rebuild muscle. She attended acupuncture and is enrolled in weekly hydrotherapy sessions. Reign is my German Shepherd support dog that needs a spinal decompression surgery. She was first diagnosed with IVDD Type II (Slow onset) on October 6th 2023, but she then relapsed with acute IVDD on May 11th 2024. I am exhausting all avenues to try to save Reign's life, but so far I have found no financial support to fund her surgery and I fear I am losing the battle. Reign was showing slow improvement and began regaining strength in her legs until she was dog attacked at the local park by a neighbor's dog on August 13th. The dog attacked Reign's back legs/wheels, rolled her wheelchair over, and Reign twisted and re injured her spine in a horrific crash landing. She is now unable to stand or turn herself over at all. To make matters more challenging, I also have a degenerative spinal disease so I cannot support her weight of over 60 pounds with a sling. Reign is therefore completely reliant on her Walkin' Wheels wheelchair. There is very little information out there on how to manage large breed dogs with IVDD. This is my journal on Reign's progress and I hope that this might help others.
