Tambourin Chinois playing and tutorial

Tambourin Chionois by Fritz Kreisler. Written in 1910 for violin and piano. Arranged for xylophone and piano by George Hamilton Green. It has been part of our keyboard percussion repertoire longer than almost all original works written for us. It was an audition piece for the xylophone chair in the President's Own Marine Band and is the audition piece for the NJMEA mallet percussion chair this year (and every 4 years). I like the blue Ed Smith # 16 vibe mallet by Malletech or the Mike Manieri # 17. For the kelon Musser marimba that will be supplied for Region 2 in the NJMEA auditions (JP Stevens high school) go with the Malletech DS # 19. The DS # 19 is great for this piece on that instrument. All of these mallets are mushroom shaped so there is a point on the mallet where the contact is made with the bar. The 16, 17 and 19 are bigger and heavy so, even with the good articulation they provide, you'll get a full sound with nice strong projection. Good luck, Greg
