Is The “Rock Is Dead” Debate Stupid?

This debate just keeps on going, and I have been asked to comment on it on occassion. Gene Simmons notoriously stated in an interview in 2014 that "Rock is dead". He recently reiterated this point saying he still stands by it. Alice Cooper has now weighed in on the subject stating that he doesn't completely agree with that, and gives his reasons which I'll elaborate on. Is rock dead? What does that mean anyway? Financially? Culturally? Is it possible for it to evolve as a genre or will it forever be stuck in the past? Please, I'd love to know your thoughts on this as it's a topic that seems to keep being raised. Comment below.
