In this video we visit Marrickville, a station on the Bankstown Line in Sydney's inner west. Marrickville is served by services on Sydney Trains T3 Bankstown Line and we see some trains at the station during the tail end of the morning peak. We see the usual assortment of Waratah (A & B Set) trains but as the video goes on we do see some Millennium (M Set) trains, as well as two K Set trains; the oldest in the Sydney Trains fleet. Marrickville station opened on the 1st February 1895 as part of the first stage of the Bankstown Line from Sydenham to Belmore, with the station being the first on the line after the Bankstown Line diverges off from the Illawarra Line at Sydneham. Originally the station as an island platform (where platform 1 is now) but in 1916 the station was reconfigured with a side platform arrangement with a new platform 2 built. This was done to make way for the construction of the Metropolitan Goods Line directly adjacent to the station. The station otherwise hasn't changed too much since then but it did receive an accessibility upgrade in 2016 which saw a new concourse built with lift access. However the station is about to undergo its biggest change in over a century as the Bankstown Line between Sydenham and Bankstown is about to close so that it can be converted into a Sydney Metro line. Starting the 30th September 2024 the Bankstown Line will close for over 12 months while the Metro conversion works take place. When completed trains on the existing Sydney Metro line from Tallawong to Sydenham will be extended to Bankstown.
