One of these was “Little Boy Lost,” a Legrand-Bergman classic memorably debuted by Johnny Mathis in 1970 for the film ‘Pieces Of Dreams.’ Fulfilling Legrand’s hope to hear her version, “Little Boy Lost” now becomes the first single from Warner Music/Ghostlight Records’ soon-to-be-released ‘Legrand Affair: Deluxe Edition’ (November 8, 2019). Melissa and producer-arranger Rob Mathes found themselves pulsing in the happy pocket of a swinging, tripping sound for the number—reflecting Melissa’s new enthusiasm for small group jazz sounds of the kind that bring to mind the swinging side of Peggy Lee or Nat King Cole’s “After Midnight” sessions. “Instead of being a melancholy call for a lost boy, I suddenly heard this song as swinging and happy, a way of calling him home: come right here, lost boy, and nestle in this bosom,” Melissa laughingly insists. A delight at once retro, contemporary, and full of Errico’s signature warmth and wit, the new release features Tedd Firth on piano, Zev Katz on bass, Joe Bonadio on drums, and Russell Malone on guitar.
