Welcome to the Warwick Economics Summit 2023! We were delighted to host Peter Diamond, recipient of the 2010 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel! Peter Diamond is an Institute Professor Emeritus at MIT, where he taught from 1966 to 2011. He has worked extensively on a number of topics, including optimal taxation, search theory, and pensions. After first consulting to U.S. Congress about Social Security reform in 1974, he has analyzed pension systems in many countries. His books include Reforming Pensions: Principles and Policy Choices and Pension Reform: A Short Guide (both with Nicholas Barr) and Saving Social Security: A Balanced Approach (with Peter Orszag). He was one of the three winners of the 2010 Nobel Memorial Prize for Economics Science for analysis of markets with search frictions. The Warwick Economics Summit (WES) is the largest student-run Economics summit in Europe. Now having run for nearly two decades, the Summit has evolved in form and stature into a truly international forum where talented students from various universities listen to some of the world's most revered and inspirational speakers on a wide range of topics.
