@KijaniFarmstead shares a success story on the experience in keeping free range Kienyeji poultry i.e. Chicken, turkey, ducks, and geese (in the past year, we also kept guinea fowls and doves). This story aims to a) share our learning and experiences with farmers, b) equip, particularly beginner farmers, with relevant information and skills and c) motivate farmers who are thinking of starting a Poultry farm. We extensively share 5 main tips to a profitable poultry farming venture. We cover: 1) Poultry housing 2) Poultry feeding and nutrition 3) Hygiene and health considerations 4) Eggs production, incubation and brooding 5) Marketing and record keeping As you may know, there are different types of chicken reared in Kenya, Kienyeji chicken being the most common. Kienyeji chicken come in different breeds, namely: a) Dominant kienyeji b) KARI improved Kienyeji c) Kuroiler improved d) Rainbow rooster e) Sasso chicken f) Kenbro chicken At Kijani FS we keep the dominant Kienyeji chicken, in addition to other poultry that is the ducks , geese and turkeys. You as the farmer should be the first customer, at Kijani farmstead, instead of buying meats and eggs, we get from our farm and save the money for other needs. There is high demand in the market for both eggs and meats from Kienyeji chicken, and the other poultry. For production continuity, we select and reserve the best birds, that is the best brooders and best cocks. We also change the cock frequently to prevent inbreeding. Timely identification, treatment, and management of common illness e.g coccidiosis, avian influenza, new castle and marek disease is critical. It's recommended that you deworming your birds, and vaccinate them against Newcastle disease. Most importantly, consulting a veterinarian whenever you encounter unusual diseases (please reach out to us for recommendations). _____________________________________________________ We hope you will learn and enjoy the video.
