3 Benefits of Early cultivation of Garlic || Crop Reformer

Conventionally, garlic is planted in the beds, left in the open sun and germination is affected by 7-10% in different types of soil and environmental conditions. Few decades ago, September planting of garlic was a common practice. Climatic conditions have changes and now early planting of garlic has been restricted. Early planted crop continues to develop its roots but shoots emerge during relatively mild temperature of 28-30 centigrade. Early planted crop competes well with diseases and produces higher bulb yield. Use of paddy mulch on the beds after planting of garlic cloves, provides cooler and natural environment beneath the mulch. Crop flourishes well under natural conditions of preserved moisture, improved microbial activity, soil flora and fauna resulting into higher bulb yield. Garlic (Allium sativum) is a very important condiment crop of Pakistan and almost daily used for HANDI cooking in every home. In this video, we have summarized most of the planting methods of garlic crop. The most common and successful method is planting at row to row and plant to plant distance of 4 inches in flat soil. 2 nd method is planting on the tops of 38 inch wide raised beds at at row to row and plant to plant distance of 4-4.4 inches. 3 rd method which is mainly suggested for salt affected and hard soils that is planting of only three rows on the top of 2.5 feet apart beds. 4th method is planting of two rows along the both edges of 2.5 feet ridges. One row of NARC G1 should be planted along each side of 2.5 feet ridges. Sowing time of garlic (Allium sativum) is about to initiate in September and October. Which variety should be cultivated in different conditions? In this video we have answered this question. Comparative characteristics of four important varieties viz. Gulabi Lehsan, NS-756, NARC 1 and Tarrara have briefly been mentioned. Lehsan Gulabi is most demanded variety but this is susceptible to diseases and physiological disorder of re sprouting. Expert farmers can raise it successfull but raw handed farmers should avoid its planting. Media hype has been created for the planting of NARC G1 which I considered as a fake variety in the long run. NS 756 is a disease tolerant, compact bulb variety, high yielder and it is strongly recommended for large scale production. Trara has not proper shelf life/storage quality but it may also be planted as early variety. NARC 1 is not a good quality garlic, hardly successful in central to south Punjab but it is an approved variety and may also be planted in cool areas of country. #garlic #cropreformer
