You must use linking words for the Fluency/Coherence score on IELTS Speaking. Today you’ll learn the linking words you need for a higher Speaking score on IELTS. Go to allearsenglish.com/insider for your free IELTS Masterclass Video Series. In natural, daily conversation, it’s not normal to use lots of linking words. However, on the Speaking test, the examiner listens for a variety of linking words, so you have to provide that. If you only use phrases like, "And, and, because, because, I think, I think, I think," you will not show enough variety, and get a 6 or less for Fluency and Coherence. When you introduce and answer, you can use: In the first place, … In the second place, … Put it like this, ... Introducing opinions: (Speaking Part 3 should sound almost as formal as Writing Task 2.) I’m of the opinion that, … To my mind, … I firmly believe... Introduce another example or idea: Secondly, … In addition/Moreover/Furthermore, … Yet another example of this is, … Yet another reason is, … Summarize a long answer: Yeah, so that about sums it up.
