Highwood HG Contoured Vintage Strat Saddle Review - Better Than The Originals

If you want to save seventeen minutes of your life, just buy these saddles and you can thank me later. Finally, someone has improved on one of Leo's original designs. I don't know where to begin. Every claim on the package is true. Plus from their website, "Our innovative saddles are made from exceptional quality steel and are nickel coated directly onto the steel body to provide you with pure vintage tone! HG Contoured Vintage Guitar Saddles have more mass giving you longer sustain, clearer note separation and definition, improved harmonic response and touch sensitivity. These smooth feeling saddles still retain a lovely vintage look." ALL TRUE! The sustain and tone are very noticeable. They are so good I am going to replace the three vintage 1964 saddles that I have always kept on the wound strings, with these. I can't wait to put them on my Nash Strat. I guarantee it will sound better. I don't think I have been this happy with an aftermarket Strat part ever. They are an improvement on Leo's original design. And for some reason, my guitar seems to stay in better tune. I think the string groove will help tremendously with keeping the tremolo in tune too. Bending strings is more fun. It feels better and does have the quicker attack they claim. The groove is a big improvement. It dawned on me last night why my other saddles have multiple grooves in them. Anytime I replace the saddles with new ones, they are so slick on top that the string slides around on top for a while when bending strings until a groove forms to keep the string from moving anymore. If you don't do extreme bends, then it is not a problem. I used to hate moving the string back to the center on new saddles. Plus, it knocks the string out of tune. The tuning on these is super stable. Just think of the old style threaded steel barrel Tele saddles Leo made to improve the Telecaster or the threaded saddles on the original Jazzmaster in the late '50's. People were probably complaining that the strings were moving around too much. They were a low cost solution consistent with Leo's frugal nature.    • Titanium versus Threaded Steel Barrel...   Get yours at Highwood Guitar Parts: http://www.highwood-guitarparts.com/ In the U.K.: https://www.thomannmusic.com/search_d... You will be so pleased. Thank you Piet and Marcel at Highwood for all of your help. Here is a quote from Marcel Dam, the original designer: "We are slightly above 50 Rockwell B as that number was the most common number in the pre-CBS area, as we wanted to be as true as possible to the original saddles produced by Leo and his people - but also as consistent as possible. We did found that there were very slight (!) fluctuation in hardness on the original Fender saddles. I hope this answers you questions." Please forgive the funky tone from 13:28-15:38. I forgot to turn the wah-wah off. Plus, the camera picks up a lot of reverb that you can't even hear when you are in the room. I should have turned that off too.
