Join me for a walk around the iconic seaside resort town of Whitley Bay, the North East’s favourite beachside resort, located just a stone’s throw from the River Tyne and the great city of Newcastle! From its spectacular Spanish City to its two mile-long beach and more, Whitley Bay is the perfect place for a great day out at the beach, wonderfully regenerated in recent years after a period of decline in the late 20th century. On our walk around Whitley Bay, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including Whitley Bay Beach, St. Mary’s Lighthouse, The Links, Whitley Bay Cenotaph, the Spanish City, Whitley Bay Promenade, Grant’s Clock, the former Rex Hotel, The Brewery pub, Whitley Road, The Victoria pub, the former New Coliseum cinema and theatre, The Fat Ox pub, and St. Paul’s Church.
