The walk begins and ends at the scenic overlook of Hoofddorp's Korenmolen De Eersteling (Windmill). #Hoofddorp #Netherlands ℹ About Hoofddorp: • The main town of the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, in the province of North Holland, the Netherlands. • Founded in 1853, shortly after the Haarlemmermeer (a large lake) was drained. • Has a population of roughly 78,000 people. • Home to the Haarlemmermeerse Bos, a large recreational area with forests, lakes, and walking and biking trails. ℹ About the Geniedijk (Dike): • A designated part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Stelling van Amsterdam." • Built between 1888 and 1903. • A 12-kilometer long green dike that runs through the entire Haarlemmermeer municipality. • A special type of dike designed to function as a water defense line. • Built by military engineers (genie) as part of the Stelling van Amsterdam, a historical defensive ring of fortifications surrounding Amsterdam.
