STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER - FIGHTING dog or Nanny dog? The Staffordshire bull terrier, commonly known as the Stafford, Staffy, or Staffie, is a medium-sized dog with a strong, athletic build and a short stature. The Stafford, despite its rugged exterior, is a kind, loyal, and lovable dog breed that was recognised by the American Kennel Club in the 1970s. When properly trained and socialised, the Stafford is praised for its "nanny-like" instincts and gets along amazingly well with children. Use cautious with other pets because of this breed's strong prey drive and dog-fighting history. A proper Stafford is never shy or snarly with people, even when they are just a few weeks old. They are energetic and eager in everything they do, and they are always on the lookout, even while they are sleeping. The temperament of this breed has been described as tough, courageous, stubborn, and curious. They're a terrific protector of their family because of their people-loving disposition, but they're not as protective of their belongings.
