Hazarikhil Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the biodiversity-rich forests in Bangladesh. It is located on the east slope of the reserved range of Ramgarh-Sitakund in Fatikchhari, 45 kilometers from Chattogram city. It was connected to the Baroiyadhala Forest Range. This wildlife sanctuary was established after separating from there in 2014. How rich is this forest in plant and animal diversity? It is a very rich forest. Because some of the wildlife and plants that have become extinct in other forests can still be found here. For instance, Mainland Serow is still found here and in Baroiyadhala forest but has extinct from almost all forests of Bangladesh. Porcupine, Hoolock Gibbon, Bear, and many endangered animals can be found here. Also, some plants can only be found here. Such as Dhup Tree. This tree is sustained naturally only in this forest. Does it have fragrance? Yes, it has. The freshwater prop root tree is the only tree that cannot be found anywhere else but here. Could it be grown in another place? Efforts were made to grow saplings in another place, but they were not successful. Such rare species of plant are available here. About 476 species of plants have been identified so far here. So many species of plants in a specific forest is also a significant factor. So far, young people, especially those who take photographs of birds, have captured 457 species of birds on their cameras. We believe that Hazarikhil is very rich in biodiversity, plant and animal diversity in Bangladesh. It is very important to pay attention to its conservation. How big is this forest? Hazarikhil Wildlife Sanctuary is basically established with two bits. It has another bit also. One is Hazarikhil bit, another is Fatikchhari bit and the last is Baromasia bit. Although Baromasia bit is not connected to the sanctuary. With Baromasia, it covers an area of 5,800 acres. Without Baromasia, it is about 2,908 acres.
