Upgrading an Asus GL553V from m.2 SATA to NVMe (500% speed increase) & Replacing the keyboard / palmrest on an MSI GS63 Stealth. The ASUS came in because the customer said there was no display. They replaced the RAM thinking that would fix it (which it actually DID) but they didn't leave the laptop on long enough for it to POST, so they THOUGHT it didn't fix it! Sometimes it can take minutes for the laptop to POST after a hardware change, so they sent it to me to troubleshoot AND to clone over the slow m2 SATA to the NVMe they provided. The MSI GS63 Stealth just needed a few keys replaced because the customers bird picked them off. But on these models, the keyboard is fused so the entire palmrest will need to be replaced unless you want to melt the plastic rivets and huff plastics for an 2 hours to save $40. One of the main reasons I started a YouTube channel, besides the fact the computer and phone repair industry in America have 1 foot in the grave, was to help educate all you beautiful people at home about common upgrades and fixes to help save you some money by repairing things yourself. (I'm also trying to impress your mother) And though I don't offer step-by-step tutorials on specific devices in my brain rotting, dopamine surging, 60 second Shorts, or my completely deranged long-form videos. My goal is to at least give you an overview of the process and help you decide if you want to try it yourself, or bring it to a local reputable shop that has managed to stay open despite the constant every day mental and financial struggle that comes with owning a business in an industry that fights you ever step of the way. In this video, I'll be performing a very common upgrade that results in a 500% speed increase on a 2017 ASUS ROG laptop, and a very common repair that is not as easy and really shouldn't exist in the first place if manufacturer's actually gave a shit about repair. On a personal level, you'll get a glimpse of how I spend my Friday nights as a 1 man repair shop, and why I haven't had a social life in the 9 years since opening this business. Enjoy!
