We tested the 24” Jett with EIGHT different kids to get a feel for how well it fits kids over a wide range of sizes and ages. How does the Jett adjust to my child as they grow? What’s the trick? The Specialized Jett has 3 areas of extended adjustability: 1) Taller seat post 2) Rotating “u-shaped” handlebar 3) Different pedal positions While you can certainly eyeball most of these adjustments, Specialized also created the Specialized Fit Tool. It guides you through taking several measurements of your child and provides specific guidance for setting the three-points of adjustment on the bike. Will the Jett really fit my child longer than other bikes? Yes… but If we’re being honest, the extended seat post of the Jett 24 is the most significant factor in allowing a child to fit on the Jett longer than other 24 inch bikes. A very similar result could be achieved simply by buying a longer seat post like on the Trek Precaliber 24 here. Beyond seat height, correct handlebar height is also essential to getting a proper bike fit. The “u-shaped” handlebars did allow for more height and adjustability as compared to Trek’s flat bar, but not as drastically as we anticipated. While not a game-changer, our taller testers felt and appreciated the extra height. So what’s the bottom line on the Jett’s claims for a better fit for longer? The adjustable sizing of the Jett certainly helps your child fit longer as they grow taller, but the overall effect of the “three summers fit” isn’t overly drastic. But this bike is incredible! Fit aside, the Specialized Jett is a super comfortable and efficient machine that is an excellent choice for city riding. So what makes it feel so comfy and natural? A few things: 1) Saddle - The kid-specific saddle of the Jett is narrow to prevent leg splay when pedaling. It also has plenty of padding, and a protective plastic rim along the base. 2) Grips - Narrower and ergonomic with “wings” for added wrist support, the grips on the Jett are top-notch. 3) Narrow q factor - To allow for maximum efficiency of each pedal stroke, the Jett’s q-factor is narrow to allow a child to exert force straight down on the pedal. 4) Tires - 2 inch wide smooth-rolling tires provide plenty of cushion and traction. 5) Brakes - The Specialized Jett doesn’t have a coaster brake (even on the 16”), which makes learning to pedal so much easier for little ones. The dual handbrakes are easy to engage and offer great stopping power. 6) Gearing - The geared 20” and 24” Jett bikes feature easy-to-use trigger shifters. And really, they are EASY TO USE! So what’s the bottom line on the Specialized Jett? An exceptional bike from top to bottom, the Specialized Jett is packed full of features that kids and parents both love. In the end, while the Jett didn’t provide as much adjustability as we anticipated, we were incredibly impressed by its quality and performance. Extended fit aside, the Specialized Jett is one of the best kids bikes we’ve ever tested.
