Make sure you check out other videos in this series. A song performed over 200 times on stage by Elvis, and performed at both ends of his 1970's live era. It was first introduced during his return to live performing in August 1969, and would be sung during his final live appearance on 26 June 1977 in Indianapolis. "I Can't Stop Loving You" would find it's way onto four live albums during his lifetime, In Person (1969), Aloha (1973), the version from MSG in 1972 and a version recorded in The Mid-south Coliseum in Memphis on 20 March 1974. Version One : The First Live Recording – 24 August 1969, Dinner Show Version Two : 10 August 1970, Opening Show This excellent version was filmed during Elvis' opening show of his August 1970 Las Vegas engagement, on the 10th. This is a wonderful rendition which was filmed for, but never used in, the original 1970 version of Elvis - That's The Way It Is. Two versions of the song were filmed by MGM's cameras over the course of production, with the latter was filmed during the dinner show of the 11th, although neither made it into the final edit of the original 1970 movie. It was however, one of the few new additions to the 2001 re-edited version of the movie, that had not already been seen in the Lost performances on it's release in 1992, and there is very little difference in the quality of either version. Version Three : 12 November 1971, Hofheinz Pavilion, Houston Version Four : 9 April 1972, Evening Show – Hampton Roads Coliseum This version, one of three filmed live versions that have been officially released, was filmed during Elvis' evening show in The Hampton Roads Coliseum on 9 April 1972. It was not included in the original theatrical edit "Elvis - On Tour" but was included in "The Lost Performances" in 1992. As good as this version is, it has lost some of that grit and edginess that was present in the 1969 and 1970 versions which also contained a hint of menace therein. Version Five : 13 May 1973, 3am Closing Show – Lake Tahoe A fun version in keeping with the general mood of this excellent show. Version Six : 1 July 1974, Omaha Civic Center A superb version, typical of the year, and in excellent sound and with superb 8mm footage. Version Seven : 1 June 1975, Von Braun Civic Center, Huntsville The penultimate rendition of the song, and one of only twice that the song was performed in 1975 and both on consecutive nights. Version Eight : The Final Live Version – 26 June 1977, Market Square Arena, Indianapolis Ignored throughout 1976 and 1977, Elvis resurrected this song on what would become his final live appearance. Slower in tempo than previously and with partial video footage. As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
