Exploring the abandoned modell of the proposed AVUS Südkurve. The AVUS was built between 1913 and 1921 on the edge of Berlins western Border. The AVUS - an abbreviation for Automobil-Verkehrs-und-Übungsstraße (Automobile Traffic and Practice Road) was envisioned to be Germanys premier purpose built racing track. The track was modified over the years, with the most important addition (added in 1936) being the "Wall of Death" - an embankment turn with a 43° tilt and no safety barriers. The track was modified again in 1940 and connected to the German Autobahn. The southern hairpin was altered, and a second raised embankment was supposed to be added. A concrete model was built a few meters away from where the new "Südkurve" was to be built - but the project was never completed due to the continuation of the second World War. The AVUS Südkurve Modell has fallen into disrepair has ben left to rot in the woods. It is not a protected monument and the local council of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf has no interest in its upkeep.
