Nodia strongly believes that learning basic elements of other cultures develops into mutual understanding and acceptance. She shares the beautiful culture of the Garifuna, people of African and Indigenous descent, to educate her students at UNCG to develop intercultural competence. Prof. Nodia C. Mena was born in Honduras, Central America. She graduated with a master’s degree in Languages, Literatures, and Cultures from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Prof. Mena teaches Spanish language and also, about the history and culture of the Garifuna, people of African and Indigenous descent, living in Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and The United States. Prof. Mena is interested in helping students to develop intercultural competence. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
