The University of Utah Chamber Choir performs Vaughan Williams' "Three Shakespeare Songs" in concert, April 2019. Premiered in 1951, Vaughan William's "Three Shakespeare Songs" paint a mysterious, beautiful and captivating scene for the listener. With texts from Shakespeare's The Tempest, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and others, this has become a standard in choral music! Text: I. Full Fathom Five Full fathom five thy father lies, Of his bones are coral made; Those are pearls that were his eyes: Nothing of him that doth fade, But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange. Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell: Ding-dong. Hark! now I hear them, – ding-dong bell. II. The Cloud-Capp'd Towers The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind: We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. III. Over Hill, Over Dale Over hill, over dale, Thorough bush, thorough briar, Over park, over pale, Thorough flood, thorough fire I do wander everywhere. Swifter than the moonè's sphere; And I serve the fairy queen, To dew her orbs upon the green. The cowslips tall her pensioners be; In their gold coats spots you see; Those be rubies, fairy favours, In those freckles live their savours: I must go seek some dew-drops here, And hang a pearl in every cowslip's ear
