Deacon Blues is a song written by the great jazz fusion duo Walter Becker and Donald Fagen for their group Steely Dan. It's one of my personal favorite Steely Dan tunes along with Do It Again and Black Cow, and what really stands out to me is the Tenor Saxophone solo by session musician Peter Christlieb. Perfectly crafted over a variety of shifting chords, it clocks in at just under fifty seconds and fits perfectly atop the atmosphere that Becker, Fagen and other incredible musicians such as Lee Ritenour, Larry Carlton, Victor Feldman, and Bernard Lee Purdie (of the Purdie Shuffle) worked to create.
