This film tells the story of a Maine Lobsterman in the 1950's, back when lobster traps were wooden, lobsters were kept in bushel baskets and the price was right around .30 per pound. Written and narrated by E.B. White, the film takes place on Deer Isle and features lobsterman Eugene (Gene) Eaton on his lobster boat "Nor Wester" and Gus Heanssler, lobster buyer and marine hardware store owner. The film mentions Halibut Ledge, Saddleback Ledge, Marshall Shore (off Marshall Island), Spirit Ledge, and Hen Island, owned by Gus Heanssler and used to receive lobsters from the fishermen. E.B. White had a clear understanding of lobstering, saying it is "immensely complex, yet simple and direct." The film explains the entire lobstering process, and shows Eaton selling his 200lbs of lobsters to Heanssler for $60 which was considered a "day when you get ahead."
