Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant is back to tell us more about shotgun ammunition, specifically shotshells loaded with buckshot. You've probably heard the term "double aught buck" (or "#00 buckshot"). #00 buck is one of the most popular loads for home-defense shotguns because it delivers an excellent balance of individual pellet size and the number of pellets that fit in the shell. There's also #0, #000, and #0000 buckshot - the MORE zeros in the name, the LARGER the pellets. So "quadruple buck" isn't your best bet for a home-defense load because it holds so few pellets. Similarly, #1 buckshot is smaller than #0, down to the smallest of all, #4 buck. You get a lot of #4 pellets in a shell, but due to their small size, they don't pack nearly as much oomph as Old Reliable #00 Buck!
