Presented by Professor Ian Anderson Pro-Vice Chancellor (Engagement) and Foundation Chair for Indigenous Higher Education Since Australia began to develop Indigenous policy as a national priority, higher education has been treated as the ‘boutique’ end of Indigenous policy, and framed as the endpoint of educational improvement – rather than as a critical intervention for Indigenous development. This is no longer the case. There is a new framework for Indigenous higher education policy. Taken together with the emerging opportunities for Indigenous social and economic development, Indigenous education strategy has been positioned more centrally within the Indigenous policy agenda. Professor Ian Anderson’s lecture will describe this transformation and consider some of the challenges the new agenda will face in the light of proposals to deregulate the financing of higher education
